Using PuraStat® Haemostatic Solution in ENT Endonasal Surgery

InterMed is proud to partner with 3-D Matrix Medical Technology to bring PuraStat®, an innovative haemostatic solution to healthcare professionals across New Zealand.

Why use PuraStat® in ENT Endonasal Surgery?

Managing bleeding in endonasal surgery is a critical challenge due to the highly vascular nature of nasal tissue. Traditionally, tamponade with nasal packing has been used to achieve haemostasis, but this can compromise patient comfort and potentially affect delicate surgical outcomes.

PuraStat® offers a modern, patient-focused alternative. Designed for precise haemostasis without excessive pressure, it provides ENT surgeons with greater control during procedures¹ ³ while improving the post-operative experience for patients.

PuraStat® Mode of Action

PuraStat® is a slightly viscous solution of synthetic peptides. When PuraStat® comes into contact with blood, the acidic peptide solution is neutralised and exposed to ions. This reaction triggers the formation of ß-sheets, which self-assemble into a 3-dimensional scaffold structure.

This scaffold provides a physical barrier, stopping bleeding effectively across a wide range of surgical indications² ⁴ — from ENT endonasal surgery to open, laparoscopic, and endoscopic procedures.
